Our country has no greater asset than our children. It is the responsibility of all of us to help them grow into productive, well-adjusted adults. But in order to do that we must get them through adolescence and the teen years. Unfortunately, that is the age when they are the most vulnerable to influences that are dangerous.

One of these dangers is driving while under the influence of a mind-altering agent, whether it is alcohol or drugs. Thank you for introducing me to a program that can save these precious lives by enabling teens to experience what it is to "drive under the influence" while entirely sober. By allowing the kids to drive a go-kart while wearing special goggles and then being administered a sobriety test, "THE DUI EXPERIENCE" allows them to learn about the dangers of what it is like to be out of control or to ride with someone else who is "under the influence."

Thank you for providing this valuable tool, You will save some precious lives.

With kindest regards, I am

It was a pleasure to meet you at Raceworld. Although Detective Isenberg had told me great things about the program, experiencing what these kids go through was incredible.

There is no doubt in my mind that some of these kids will have their concept of drunk driving changed forever. I feel certain that many of them will not only refrain from drinking and driving themselves, but will not get into an automobile with an impaired driver and may also prevent a friend from doing so.

Eldon had told me that he would like to see this program developed statewide. I think it is a great idea and I have offered to help in any way that I cn to see that it happens.

On behalf of the people of our community and state, I thank you for your dedication to our young people. I know that your efforts will mean that many more young people will make it home safely, If I can ever be of assistance to you in any way do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

I am writing this letter to support your efforts with the Kentucky State Police to impress upon our young people the need to refrain from drinking and driving. You have put your wonderful facility to excellent use by allowing our young people to use you "mini-cars" and drive with optical devices that replicate the impairments caused by alcohol. I appreciate your generosity and hope the program will continue.

I learned from my experience driving with the optical device. I never knew how sensible you could feel while driving only to later see the tape of our driving and see how erratic your driving really was. I particularly remembger trying to stop and believing I had plenty of room, only to "slam" into the car in front of me. Hopefully, our young people will feel the same impact I did from this experience.

I commend RaceWorld and the Kentucky State Police for working together to establish such a program. Students will be able to feel the effects of "drinking and driving" without ever taking the road or taking a drink. Although, I hope students will never do either, I feel that this experience may prevent several of them from driving if they drink.

I participated in the program several months ago, but I still vividly remember how startled I was at my inability to drive when I put on the optical devices. Now that prom season is upon us, I certainly hope that those students who participated with me remember as vividly as I do.

I hope you continue the program, and I will lend any assistance you need to ensure that the program can continue.

Sincerely,

I wanted to write and thank you for the opportunity I had to witness, first hand, the "DUI Experience". I have had the chance to see many different programs relating to teenage driving under the influence issues. The hands on concept that you have developed goes to a different dimension or reality that attracts and keeps young people's attention. It was obvious from the student's expressions that they enjoyed the experience, however, they understood the serious nature of the lesson.

As Commonwealth's Attorney, I often deal with the tragedy of DUI. THis tragedy effects not only the victims, but the young defendants who do not understand the consequences of their actions. Your approach not only showed the inherent danger associated with DUI, but the tremendous loss that is often times a part of the real DUI experience.

I want to congratulate you, your staff at RaceWorld, Eldon and the Kentucky State Police for a refreshing approach in this area. Your efforts may never be recognized, except for the lives you will save.

Very truly yours,

On May 1, 2001 I had the opportunity to observe and participate in the DUI Experience you put on for the Roy Municipal School seventh through twelfth grade classes. The activity was very well received by the students. Most of the students have had the opportunity to try on the DUI goggles and perform various activities; however, they had not had the opportunity to actually drive and perform various field sobriety tests. The DUI Experience was a very hands on activity and made the effects of driving while intoxicated real to the students. THank you for the time you took to explain Driving Under the Influence to the students in a non-threatening and fun way.

I personally had the opportunity to drive the car with the goggles and was surprised at the effect they had. The experience was well constructed and beneficial.

I hope you have the opportunity to take the DUI Experience to more students and citizens of New Mexico. This is an excellent and safe way to show citizens the effects intoxication can have on driving. I believe your time at the school was a great benefit and an experience the students will long remember. We are looking forward to our July 4th activity when you will make this available to the community.

Sincerely,

My name is Amy Turney and I am the Youth In Action Coordinator for MADD in Rutherford County, TN. Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the DUI demonstration held by C.T. and Sue Williams. This demonstration consisted of high school students wearing DUI goggles and driving go-karts while impaired. I also had the opportunity to drive the go-karts with the DUI goggles. This was a terrific idea. The students were able to experience first hand what it is like to drink and drive without really being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The student response was phenomenal.

They suddenly understood how alcohol and drugs can seriously impair their driving ability. The students really seemed concerned with the problem when they saw how dangerous DUI can be. The event demonstrators did an excellent job presenting the information to the students and giving the students a real demonstration.

Also on hand were several officers who performed field sobriety tests on the students. The students were amazed. I would highly recommend this demonstration to other parks and students. It truly is a hands on experience that students can feel the effects of immediately. It is a wonderful tool to use to heighten awareness of the dangers of DUI to students. I highly recommend this program to anyone who has the opportunity to use it. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

On Thursday, September 28, I was a participant in the Skid Control and D.U.I. Experience at your facility. I was absolutely amazed at the entire experience. We were able to learn to deal with skids in a controlled environment. Not only was this educational, we had a blast. It was fun to slide through the corners, but very challenging to keep the vehicle straight.

The D.U.I. experience was incredible. It made you really feel how helpless impaired drivers must be on our highways. Those goggles are amazing. I tell people now that I can't really describe it-you simply must experience it yourself.

We are excited about this program and are now in the process of scheduling a trip for our Driver Education students. I feel that the entire program was very beneficial and enjoyable. We look forward to making this an important part of our Driver Education curriculum.
